Oahu's North Shore
Camping
The North Shore of Oahu has only a few designated camping sites, but because it has miles of pristine beaches, it is easy to find a secluded spot and pitch a tent. If it is a more defined camping area you seek, permits to get in areas like Peacock Flats near Mokuleia Beach to hike, hunt, or camp can be obtained from the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources in downtown Honolulu.

Dole Plantaion
The Dole Plantation is one of Oahu’s most visited
attractions and has something for the whole family.
Bring the kids (or adults) and experience the ride of
the Pineapple Express train. This two-mile, 20 minute
ride is an educational history lesson about the plantation
and the process of growing these wonderful fruits. Guests
can also get lost in Dole’s World’s Largest
Maze, covering more than two acres and containing over
a mile and a half of twisting, turning paths.
Gliding
At Dillingham Airfield you can soar with the wind
in one of the most scenic flights available. The
Honolulu Soaring Club has peaceful and thrilling
acrobatic rides in motorless gliders. This is a
must do if you enjoy the thrill of flight.
Golf
If it is golf you like, the North Shore is home
to several of the best courses in the state. The
Turtle Bay Resort has two wonderfully designed courses,
one being the Arnold Palmer Championship Course
and the other is the Tom Fazio designed course.
Both of these courses offer great challenges and
a breathtaking scenery.
Hiking/ Biking
For those looking to experience the North Shore
by foot or bike, there are a number of excellent
hiking and mountain biking trails throughout the
area. From the trails above Pupukea to the slopes
off Keaena Point, you can truly get to know the
north shore up close and personal.
Horseback Riding
If you are looking to see the North Shore by horseback, there are several wonderful locations to rent and ride horses. Turtle Bay Resort offers spectacular rides along the coast line near Kawela Bay. You can also find stables near Waimea Valley that take riders through beautiful lush forest areas, which make for some of the most breath taking views on Oahu.
Jet Ski
For the thrill seeker visiting the North Shore, Jet Skis
are one of the most exciting ways to see the North Shore
from the water. Watercraft Connection in Haleiwa offer
rentals for the entire family to enjoy. You can choose
from one or two seat models and then take off out into

Kayaking
Renting a Kayak on the North Shore will truly give you an unforgettable experience. Paddling out into the blue Pacific with just the sound of the wind and waves will leave you with memories for a life time. In Haleiwa Town you will find several locations such as Surf-n-Sea that will rent kayaks for half day or full day rates. Summer months are the best time of year to take part in kayaking, because during the winter months the large waves on the North Shore make it extremely dangerous.
Kahuku Motocross Track
Between Sunset Beach and Turtle Bay is one of Oahu’s most famous motocross tracks. Known as the Kahuku Motocross Track, this area is packed with racers and recreational riders every weekend. Spectators can come watch the races for just a few dollars and it is one of the most amazing landscapes on the island. From the man made tracks to the natural trails, this area has something for all skill levels and is a great place to spend a Sunday watching the local races.
Polynesian Cultural
Center
The Polynesian Cultural Center is located just east of the Turtle Bay Resort in the town of Laie. It is one of Oahu’s most visited attractions and brings visitors from all over the world daily (except closed on Sunday). Visitors will be able to see first hand the daily activities and lifestyles of people from New Zealand, Tonga, Samoa, Tahiti, Fiji and several other Pacific Island nations. The center has a traditional Hawaiian Luau and one of the most spectacular evening shows on the island. You can also visit the IMAX Theater while at PCC. If you plan to visit the PCC be sure to plan a full day and bring plenty of film for the camera.
Powered Hang Glide
There is no better way to see the North Shore than by air! If you are a thrill seeker and wish to get a bird’s eye view of the North Shore, than flying in a powered hang glider is the way to go. Rock Climbing
The island of Oahu has two of the very few climbing spots in the state of Hawaii. Both locations are on the North Shore and offer something for every skill level. The smaller climb of the two is located at Waimea Bay on the beach, just left of the bathrooms. It is a 30 to 35 foot climb and allows climbers a great way to stay in shape. The larger wall is located near Mokule'ia Beach and it is nearly 90 feet tall with several bolted routes already in place. Each location has its risks involved and climbers should climb at their own risk.
Scuba/ Snorkel
Experience the crystal clear waters of the North Shore. Scuba Diving has become one of the most popular activities on the North Shore during summer months. Sharks Cove is perhaps the most famous diver spot on Oahu. With miles of cave formations and lave tubes, divers can experience sights like no where else. For visitors who prefer snorkeling, just cruising along the surface will allow you to see a wide variety of sea life as well as amazing reef formations.

Waimea Valley
While on the North Shore of Oahu, one place every visitor should experience is Waimea Valley Park. In ancient times, this 1,800-acre park was thought to be a place of healing by the local Hawaiians and today it is home to some of the world’s most unique plant species. During the day professional cliff divers put on a show that is a must see.
